When I first visited Dubai, five years ago, I expected a luxurious but artificial city. I was not sure if I would like it. However, I found way more than shiny facades, interiors and consumer goods. For me, Dubai became a place to be.

I liked the glittering light and the warmth of the sun, the colors of the sand and the reflexions on the glass buildings. I disco- vered small independent art galleries, the smell of incense, the taste of carda- mom and rose water. But what impressed me most was the cultural and religious diversity among the people living together peacefully in Dubai.

Dubai is an impressive melting pot of Arabic tradition and international influ- ences - a place where tradition transforms into the future.
